Instructions
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes).
- Add minced garlic and thyme, cook for 1 minute.
- Stir in rice, salt, and pepper, coating evenly with the onion mixture.
- Pour in broth, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
- Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes until rice is tender.
- Remove from heat, fluff rice with a fork, and top with Gruyère cheese if desired.
